Our Mission:

Community through Literacy.

We believe that literacy is the cornerstone to a functioning, thriving community. We believe that literacy takes many forms in many languages. And we believe that through our library, we can rally our community in support of literacy.

Our Impact

Since 1995, the San Bernardino City Library Foundation has provided the San Bernardino Public Library system with the financial support it needs to provide new books for patrons, offer free tutoring for all academic levels, provide patrons with access to ebooks and audio books, and provide innovative programs like a Makerspace and the American Girl Doll program.

American Girl Dolls Checked Out

The American Girl Doll kits allow children to check out an authentic American Girl Doll, clothes, character book, and a journal to write their own adventures.

Our Programs

The Foundation supports a wide range of programs and services above and beyond what the city budget funds:

  • American Girl Doll program

  • Brainfuse

  • Overdrive

  • Makerspace

  • Computer/Technology upgrade

American Girl Doll program

Children can check out an American Girl Doll kit, which includes one of several ethnically diverse dolls, a carrying case, accessories, a book about the doll, and a journal. The program provides an engaging learning experience that provides a glimpse into different time periods in American history through each doll’s story and a chance for children to write about their own adventures.

Technology Upgrade

The Foundation donated more than $306,000 for a multi-year technology upgrade that provided patrons and librarians with new computers and new servers so everyone in the community has access to current technology.

Brainfuse

Brainfuse provides free, online tutoring to anyone with a San Bernardino Public Library card. Live tutors are available every day for grades kindergarten through college in a variety of subjects. Brainfuse also provides online writing assistance and live help for language learners.

Overdrive

Overdrive allows library patrons to checkout ebooks and audio books from the comfort of their home, office, or anywhere with only their library card, an internet connection, and the free Libby software. This option is especially important for patrons who may have mobility or transportation issues or may be hearing impaired.
